Oyase Community School is a dynamic learning “Village” in the Woods for children ages 7-15 that meets September to May most Thursdays. Instructors skilled in facilitating learning of Earth Living Skills, Nature Awareness and Community Skills team up with parent and community volunteers to create a multi-age learning environment that engages and inspires children and teens to learn real life skills, confidence in their own being, and a sense of belonging in a web of relationships.

A Unique Community Collaboration
Vermont Wilderness School and Community Wilderness Initiative work cooperatively to offer the Thursday Nature Awareness & Community Living Program. Community Wilderness Initiative, formed in summer of 2006, is made up of the participating families and community stakeholders. CWI oversees and manages the program lead by the Central Fire Steering Committee. Parents and community members play a critical role in Oyase Community School serving on committees caretaking the Land and interfacing with the Caretakers (Owners) of the Land, organizing Community events and celebrations, coordinating community service, maintaining good communication of what is going on, and hiring and supporting staff in doing their jobs. Parents and community members are welcome to be at Moosewood on community days spending time together, cooking food, occasionally visiting and helping out in the clans or participating on community days.
Vermont Wilderness School provides administrative, organizational, staffing and financial support. Every two months the VWS Board and Central Fire meet to discuss how the program is going and seek how we can support each other. As we journey side-by-side we continue to explore the relationship amongst us all and discern how we can all better support the development of our children, our families, and our community.
If you have a child interested in participating in the program next year, contact the office at 802-257-8570.
