VWS Employee Background Check Policy
A one-time background check is required for all employees and interns and volunteers (aged 18+) who will be working with children.
If you meet those conditions, we will be asking you to consent to a criminal background check. We do this because the safety of our participants is of highest importance to us.
We understand that staff and volunteers come to us with rich and complex life stories, so we want to emphasize that having a criminal record will not result in an automatic rejection or dismissal.
If Vermont Wilderness School becomes aware of potentially pertinent information through a criminal background check we will (in compliance with The Fair Credit Reporting Act): notify you before making any decision, share the information we have discovered, give you an opportunity to dispute any of the information, and invite you to share your story.
Please note: the website of the vendor we use – Background Info USA – refers to other types of background checks (credit checks, work history, etc.) to which you are consenting. VWS will only perform a criminal record and sex offender check, not any of the others.
