Program Overview

In the depths of the forest an intrepid band of rangers—warriors, bards, and magicians—gather to create a sanctuary. This village is their home and their base camp, from which they watch everything that moves in the forest and give aid and protection to the wild creatures. They walk silently, invisible between the trees.

To create this sanctuary we will need to learn to move invisibly in the forest, make our tools and weapons from the things the woods give us, gather and cook our own food, and dive into the ritual magic of story and song. Once our village is ready we will go on a quest into the darkness, carrying only the things we have made, ready to face whatever we find.

The Ranger’s Sanctuary is a one week immersive camp designed for creative and enthusiastic boys who want to learn to craft bows and tools, sneak through the woods undetected, and make art, stories, and songs inspired by their experiences. Our week culminates in a one night sleepover with a secret epic quest that will challenge teamwork, creativity and courage.

Instructors

Satya Moses is an artist, storyteller, and lover of the woods, fields, and rivers. He participated as a child in Vermont Wilderness School programs before setting off to travel the world, gathering his magic to bring it back home to New England. Satya is a full time visual artist and writer, and has staffed nature connection programs for children and teens in various parts of the USA and the United Kingdom.

Tejas Moses: As a child, Tejas was called to work with his hands. He has spent countless hours honing his craft and studying with his mentors at home and abroad. He made his first bows while playing in the forest at Vermont Wilderness School. He is a bowyer, ceramicist, and arborist with years of experience creating tools from natural materials and working with children outdoors. Tejas is passionate about helping others to engage effectively with natural materials in order to make things of use and beauty.

Sage Liotta

Program Director

Mark Morey is 60 years deep into a lifelong quest to awaken healthy development amongst a world where disconnection to our full potential as humans is all too common. Over the decades he has been part of founding dozens of local and international nature connection organizations and cultural transformation programs like Vermont Wilderness School, the Institute for Natural Learning, Art of Mentoring, and Boys’ Sacred Fire Initiation. He has worked and played in the overlapping worlds of human development, conscious parenting, nature-based education, regenerative business, adolescent and adult rites of passage, and mentored many young people toward a deeper connection with the earth and their own self-directed life journeys.
